In a letter mailed out throughout the state by the Martin Campaign, former U.S. Senator Max Cleland has provided his support to Jim Martin’s campaign against Senator Saxby Chambliss. Cleland says, “Six years ago, Saxby Chambliss attacked my patriotism in the emotionally charged, post 9-11 political environment. With the strong support of a then-very-popular George Bush, Chambliss was able to defeat my bid for re-election. In a letter mailed out throughout the state by the Martin Campaign, former U.S. Senator Max Cleland has provided his support to Jim Martin’s campaign against Senator Saxby Chambliss. Unfortunately, Saxby Chambliss has spent the last six years doing something very differnet — paying President Bush back with unquestioning loyalty and uncritical support for the President’s failed policies at hom and abroad.” Cleland said Jim Martis in a public servant of extraordinary skill. “He will be a progressive voice in the Senate.” Latest polls show that Jim Martin is only a few points behind Chambliss, and “66% of Georgians think the country is moving in the wrong direction.
