The Georgia Department of Revenue is providing tax relief to victims of Hurricane Gustav in the affected areas of Louisiana that coincides with the relief announcement recently issued by the Internal Revenue Service, Commissioner Bart L. Graham announced today. The Department is postponing until Jan. 5, 2009, deadlines for taxpayers who reside or have a business in the disaster area. The postponement applies to return filing, tax payment and other time-sensitive acts otherwise due between Sept. 1, 2008 and Jan. 5, 2009 as specified by the IRS. The postponement also includes return filing, tax payment and other time-sensitive acts related to taxes not administered by the IRS such as state sales and use tax. The relief also applies to taxpayers not in the covered area, but whose books, records, or tax professionals
