Former President Bill Clinton was in Atlanta Wednesday afternoon for a campaign rally and fundraiser in support of Democratic candidate Jim Martin. Clinton spoke to three thousand people gathered in the cold at Clark Atlanta University and urged Georgians to return to the polls on December 2nd to vote against Republican Senator Saxby Chambliss. Clinton said, ” (Chambliss) was elected on a false premise six years ago and is running on a false premise today.” He referred to dirty campaign tactics that the Chambliss campaign used against former Senator Max Cleland. Clinton said, “We saw someone wanting a Senate seat so bad that he accused Max of endangering the national security of the country, and nothing could have been further from the truth.” Cleland was present at the rally and has provided a television endorsement of Jim Martin. Former President Clinton said Chambliss wants to be a “firewall” to stop legislation that will be proposed by our new President.” State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond also made a strong speech in support of Martin. It was also announced that former Vice President Al Gore would be in Georgia this week to help Martin’s campaign
