Thurbert Baker, the highly regarded attorney general of Georgia has revealed he will indeed be a candidate for governor in 2010. A spokesman says that Baker has prepared the necessary paperwork and will soon officially announce his campaign plans. Baker, an African-American, won more votes than anyone else in the Democratic primary 2006, his last statewide race. He is expected to run a tough-on-crime campaign. One other candidate is officially in the race for governor on the Democratic Party side. He is former Adjutant General David Poythress. He already has raised a large amount of money and has hired a large staff, and he has said he is in the race to win, regardless of others who might contest the race. Former Governor Roy Barnes is playing with the idea.
