Former Georgia Secretary of State and U.S. Senator Max Cleland received word from President Obama tThursday night that he needs to have his bags packed and get ready for some foreign travel. Cleland, who served as U.S. Senator for six years, will be appointed to serve as Secretary of the American Battle Monuments Commission, which has jurisdiction over 24 National American cemeteries abroad. Cleland, age 66, served for four years on the board of directors of the Export-Import Bank of the United States. Prior to being elected secretary of state in Georgia, Cleland headed the Veterans Administration during the Carter Administration.
