Rep. Jay Roberts of House District 154, Ocilla, has been chosen by the House of Representatives to serve as chairman of the House Transportation committee. He replaces Rep. Vance Smith who moved over to become Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Transportation. Roberts, who is serving his third term in the House of Representatives, also serves as chairman of the Republican Majority Caucus. He holds a degree in Criminal Justice from Valdosta State University. A community leader in Irwin County, Roberts and his wife, Sara, have two children, Justin and Jana.
