ROY BARNES WILL ENTER GOVERNOR’S RACE

Former Governor Roy Barnes will seek to return to office. The Cobb County lawyer announced this afternoon that he will enter the already crowded race. For months there has been speculation about Barnes’ plans and he had previously shown no interest in making the race. He might be considered the front runner but others in the race are not expected to stand aside. Former Adjutant General David Poythress says he is in the race to win and is already well-organized with staff and a finance operation and website. Some Democrats hope that Attorney General Thurbert Baker will reconsider his plan to run for governor since they consider him to be an outstanding Attorney General who would help the entire “ticket” by again seeking that office. However, there has been no word of any plans by Baker to step back to his present position.
