David Ralston to be new Speaker of the House

Republicans met at the Capitol Thursday and selected Rep. David Ralston of Blue Ridge to become Speaker of the House, replacing Glenn Richardson, who resigned. Ralston, who is currently serving his third term in the House of Representatives serves as Chairman of the Non-Civil Judiciary Committee. He served as a State Senator for six years and was the Republican nominee for Georgia Attorney General. He is a successful attorney and participates in the Fanning County Chamber of Commerce, Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association and the Blue Ridge Lions Club. He is a native of Ellijay and attended North Georgia College and State University. He won the Speaker’s race on the second ballot defeating Rep. Larry O’Neal, and will officially be confirmed as Speaker at the beginning of the session in January.
