Governor Appoints Brian Kemp Secretary of State

Reliable sources were wrong or either Jim Cole changed his mind. Instead of Jim Cole being appointed Secretary of State the job will go to former State Sen. Brian Kemp of Athens. Friends said that Cole changed his mind about accepting the appointment and asked Gov. Perdue to go another direction. Kemp is expected to continue his campaign for the job for the full four-year term which begins in 2011. Former Secretary of State Karen handel stepped down last week to focus full time on her gubernatorial bid. Speaking of Kemp, Gov. Perdue said, “I have known Brian for several years and he has shown a strong dedication and commitment to public service.
