ATLANTA (April 13, 2010) – Today, Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle named Sen. Seth Harp (R-Midland) as the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Harp has served as the Vice-Chairmen on the Judiciary Committee. “I am honored to receive this prestigious chairmanship,” said Sen. Harp. “I will use my knowledge as an attorney to continue serving this crucial committee as well as all citizens throughout the state. Both federal and state laws have long reaching effects on Georgians and it is important that the committee acts to ensure that all laws passed protect those within this great state.” The Judiciary Committee acts on all legislation affecting judicial proceedings, both civil and criminal. Its jurisdiction also includes civil liberties as well as governmental information and constitutional amendments. Sen. Harp additionally serves as chairman of the Higher Education Committee. He is also a member of the Government Oversight, Special Judiciary, Economic Development and Appropriations Committees.
