You may have heard the name Stuckey and wondered what made the name so famous. It looks like the answer might be in connection with the Cherry Blossm Festival in Washington, D.C. whch is now going on. The beautiful young lady chosen by the Georgia State Society to be Georgia’s 2011 entry in the National Cherry Blossom Festival is Michelle Stephanie Stuckey, a 22 year old senior at Terry College of the University of Georgia. Michelle is daughter of Scott Stuckey and granddaughter of Bill and Ethelynn Stuckey, formerly of Eastman, Georgia. Bill Stuckey is a former US. Congressman, having served as the Eight District Representative for ten years.
Michelle will be participating in a full week of Cherry Blossom Festival activities durig the week of April 4th. She follows in the footsteps of two other members of the Stuckey family who were picked by the Georgia State Society for the Georgia princess honor. Stephanie’s aunt and namesake, Stephanie Stuckey Benfield, now a member of the Georgia General Assembly, was Georgia’s Cherry Blossom Princes in 1986 and her sister, Christine, was selected for the title in 2006. Another distinction for Michelle Stuckey considering that her great-grandfather, W. S. Stuckey, Sr., founder of the national chain of Stuckey’s stores, went to the University of Georgia, she is the family’s fourth generation of graduates of the University of Georgia.
