Funeral services are schedule for Friday morning at the Arlington Baptist Church for Jimmy Hodge Timmons, former educator and member of the State Senate. Dr. Gary Hadden and Rep. Gerald Greene will be officiating.
Timmons was born June 11, 1939 in Edison, Georgia. He attended school in Arlington and graduated from Damascus High in 1956; Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College with an Associate Degree in 1956; and University of Georgia with a Bachelors Degree in Ag Education in 19670. He received his Masters Degree in Education in 1965 and received a Specialist Degree in Education Administration in 1974.
His education career began in 1960 at Banbridge High School as an Agriculture Teacher. He was principal at Damascus Elementary School and Calhoun County School. He became superintendent of Calhoun County School System from 1998 to 2001. Timmons was a popular member of the Georgia Senate from 1974-1992. He was past president of the ABAC Alumni Association and numerous other civic honors.
