The ink wasn’t dry on the legislation creating a new 9th District for U.S. Congress when Rep. Doug Collins, a Republican from Gainesville, announced plans to enter the race. He said he wouldn’t want to look his wife and three children in the face 20 years from now and have them ask why he didn’t do everything to stop the mess that they will no doubt inherit.
Collins is an attorney and served as Governor Deal’s floor leader during the recent session.
Other candidates are expected to make this race.
There was also word at the Capitol from Sen. Tommie Williams that he did not plan to make the race against incumbent Democratic Congressman John Barrow.
