Services Saturday in Lexington for former Senate Secretary Hamilton McWhorter, Jr.

Graveside services will be held Saturday at 2 pm. at Clark Cemetery in Lexingtron near Athens for former Georgia Senate Secretary Hamilton McWhorter, Jr. of Atlanta, age 98. McWhorter died on Tuesday. He served as Senate Secretary from 1967 until his retirement in 1992. Gov. Nathan Deal ordered the U.S. and Georgia flags flown at half staff Saturday at the State CVapitol in honort of Mr. McWhorter’s public and military service. He sered as a member of the State Senate for one term, 1961 to 1962. Former Lt. Gov & Gov. Zell Miller said Hamilton McWhorter was “one of the most imortant persons in Georgia politics in the last century. He had extensive knowledge of parliamentary procedures and Georgia history.
